Ragnar Persson The Bell Tolls for Everyone

Once I saw a magpie with a clock in its beak—or rather, it was more like a small bell. It jingled in rhythm with the wingbeats as the magpie flew past. Just as it disappeared from sight, the car alarm of the vehicle next to me went off.

With my unease laid bare, one might think I saw this as an omen, a warning. Instead, I am in a place where my demons walk beside me without driving me to madness. I have accepted them and let them stand watch over me.

Drawings are precisely about moments like these—about holding onto them, about pausing in the present and truly seeing.

The Bell Tolls for Everyone brings together a selection of drawings based on everyday observations, a series of portraits of my demons, and two larger collage drawings.

The Nordic Artist in Residence program is supported by the Nordic Culture Point.
